Dear Rice Community,
We’re writing to you with an update on summer activities. We all miss campus life, but ongoing concerns about the pandemic have made it clear that we can’t reasonably expect to engage in normal summer activities until at least the middle of summer. President Leebron has already announced revamped academic summer plans in which all summer school courses will be delivered on-line.
Now we’re writing to let you know that Rice is cancelling all events and activities on campus – including summer camps and off-campus Rice sponsored events -- through July 1.
We know this is a disappointment to many of you who have summer programs and plans at Rice outside of classes, and to our Houston community neighbors who traditionally participate in our on-campus programs. Program and campus activities that can be provided remotely may do so. If it becomes necessary to push back this date, we’ll let you know that as soon as possible.
We’ll continue updating you on contingency plans for reopening essential campus services for the remainder of the summer and fall semester. We’ll also keep you posted when a decision is made about reopening service centers like the Fondren Library and the Gibbs Recreation Center.
We appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on campus as soon as it’s safe for all of us to return.
