From the DOU - Message from the Dean - Fall Flu Shot Information

Dear undergraduate students,

It is wonderful to have you all back on campus and to feel the renewed energy you bring to campus. Thank you for contributing to a smooth move-in experience, I have truly enjoyed getting to connect with so many of you during the last couple of weeks.

As promised in my last email, I am reaching out to share additional information about influenza vaccines and the clinics being offered on campus this fall. As a reminder, influenza vaccines are expected of all students for the 2022-23 school year. Later this fall all students will be required to complete an influenza shot attestation (of their vaccination or their waiver) through Student Health Services. The attestation form will be due before spring registration which begins on October 28, so please plan accordingly.

The vaccine is available at most pharmacies. Rice will also be hosting four on-campus influenza vaccine clinics given by Randall's pharmacy at the RMC Grand Hall. New this year, individuals interested in an on-campus appointment may schedule in advance and complete an online consent form. Walk-in slots will be available, but priority will be given to scheduled appointments.

Please click the date/time link below to schedule your shot:

To save time on the day of clinics, students should bring their printed consent and release form (from their online registration), insurance card, and credit card with them to their appointment. Most insurance companies will cover the vaccine with no copay.

This information can also be found on the Student Health Services website directly. To sign up for text message reminders about on-campus vaccine clinics, text VAX22 to 888777.

In addition to these clinics, the influenza vaccine will also be available all semester at Student Health Services for $18. Please be prepared to provide your attestation by October 28th (additional information on the attestation process to follow). Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our campus population healthy.

I hope you are having a great first week of classes and that you get a chance to attend some of the Weeks of Welcome programming (see for more information). My office is participating in the DOU Adventure Challenge event on Wednesday, I hope you’ll come by to see our space, including new art in our office highlighting each residential college.

Best wishes,

Bridget Gorman, Dean of Undergraduates
