COVID-19 Response weekly update: Oct. 25

COVID-19 response weekly update

Dear colleagues,

I write with an update on our testing policy for students and details about an upcoming vaccine clinic.

Testing Requirements. Effective today, all students (graduates and undergraduates) who are vaccinated must test once every two weeks (instead of the prior requirement to test weekly). All unvaccinated students must continue to test twice a week.

Testing Results. Over the past seven days we’ve run about 5,700 tests for the SARS-CoV-2 virus through Rice testing and there were 9 positive results for a positivity rate of 0.16%. The testing dashboard can be found on the COVID-19 website.

Vaccine Clinics. We will be holding additional vaccine clinics with the Houston Health Department from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, November 4-5, in the East Gym at Tudor Fieldhouse. We will provide second dose and Pfizer booster shots for those who are eligible as defined by the CDC and who previously received the Pfizer vaccine. The Houston Health Department is awaiting confirmation on whether they are authorized to administer the Moderna booster, as well as mix and match options. Additional information will be sent if more options become available.

There are approximately 300 vaccine slots per day. To schedule your appointment visit: www.hhdvaccinations.org and create an account. After the screening questions you will be asked to enter an invite code, RiceU-Dose2Plus, then complete the remaining information and consent to register. If these dates are not convenient for you, there are additional Houston community options listed in the FAQ on coronavirus.rice.edu.
