On-Campus COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Clinics

On-Campus COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Clinics

Good afternoon,

In our prior fall preparedness email, we outlined various ways to remain safe and diligent this fall. Another way to support personal and community health is to stay up to date on your vaccination status. A high rate of COVID-19 vaccination has helped to keep severe illness low on our campus. Now that new boosters have been approved for individuals 12+, we will be partnering again with the Houston Health Department to provide three vaccine clinics to our Rice Community members and their families to support the ease of receiving this COVID-19 Booster.

People 12 years and older are recommended to receive one updated Pfizer or Moderna (bivalent) booster. If you are unclear as to whether or not you are eligible for a booster, the Houston Health Department and the CDC is defining eligibility as:

People who have received all primary series doses and people who have previously received one or more original (monovalent) boosters.

  • If you previously received a booster, you must wait at least four months since the last COVID-19 vaccine.
  • At this time, people aged 12 years to 17 years can only receive the updated Pfizer bivalent booster.
  • Please consult with your health care provider for additional questions.

COVID-19 Vaccine booster clinics will be held on:

  • Tuesday, October 11, 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, Grand Hall (Student Center).
  • Tuesday, October 18, 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, Grand Hall (Student Center).
  • Thursday, October 27, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Grand Hall (Student Center).

There are a limited number of vaccine appointments available each day as walk-ins - no registration is required. If these dates are not convenient for you, there are additional Houston community options listed on the Houston Health Department’s website.
